When homeowners think about boosting property value, flooring is one of the first projects that comes to mind and for good reason. Hardwood floors are consistently ranked among the top features buyers look for, especially in high-end markets like Manhattan and Chatham, NJ. But here’s a strategy many sellers overlook: refinishing their existing hardwood floors instead of replacing them.

Refinishing offers a powerful combination of lower cost, high return on investment, and an immediate upgrade in the home’s visual appeal. Let’s break down why this project can increase your property’s value by 2% to 5%, and why it’s one of the smartest pre-sale improvements you can make.

Refinishing vs. Replacing: Why Refinishing Wins on ROI

Replacing hardwood floors can be a strong investment — the National Association of REALTORS® reports an average 118% ROI for installing new hardwood flooring, and other industry sources estimate 80–90% ROI in resale value.

But refinishing the hardwood you already have is even more cost-effective: according to national data, it delivers an ROI of up to 147%.

Why?
Because refinishing costs significantly less—often around $4.53 per square foot (including staircases), yet it dramatically improves both the look and the perceived condition of the home.

By comparison, installing brand-new hardwood floors can cost two to three times more per square foot, making refinishing a far more budget-friendly option, while still delivering an exceptional return on investment.

For properties in luxury markets, this visual impact can translate directly into a 2% to 5% increase in perceived home value, especially when prepping for sale.

Dust-Free Sanding: A Must for Premium Buyers

Today’s buyers, particularly in upscale neighborhoods, expect clean, efficient, and eco-friendly renovation processes.

Dust-free sanding systems:

Keep the home cleaner during the refinishing process

Prevent fine dust from settling on furniture, walls, and ventilation systems

Appeal to families with allergies or sensitivities

Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and quality

When marketing a luxury listing, being able to say the floors were refinished using a dust-free system is a real value-add.

Premium Finishes Matter: Bona Traffic HD & Loba 2K Invisible

Not all floor finishes are created equal. Premium buyers and real-estate agents recognize the difference instantly.

Top-tier finishes like Bona Traffic HD and Loba 2K Invisible offer:

Superior durability

A modern, elegant matte appearance

Excellent resistance to scratches

Faster curing times

Longer lifespan

These finishes elevate the overall feel of a property, making it look newer, cleaner, and more aligned with current high-end design trends.

Don’t Forget the Stairs: A High-Visibility Upgrade

Staircases are often one of the most visible architectural elements in a home. Yet they’re one of the most neglected during renovation.

Refinishing or replacing stair treads can make a dramatic difference in how buyers perceive the home’s craftsmanship and upkeep.

Options include:

Refinishing existing hardwood treads

Replacing worn treads with solid hardwood

Matching staircase finish to newly refinished floors

Upgrading to modern square-edge nosings for a contemporary look

Because stairs are used daily, and are often seen the moment a buyer enters the home, this upgrade adds significant perceived value.

How Much Value Can Homeowners Expect to Gain?

Refinishing hardwood floors: Up to 147% ROI

Perceived home value increase when refinishing in luxury markets: 2%–5%

Homes with hardwood floors in general can see 3%–5% higher value than comparable homes without it.

For a home valued at $1.5M, that 2% to 5% increase translates to a potential $30,000–$75,000 value boost, from a project that might cost only a few thousand dollars, depending on the square footage.

Conclusion: A High-Impact, Low-Cost Upgrade for Sellers

Refinishing hardwood floors is one of the smartest, most cost-efficient ways to increase a home’s value, especially in competitive, upscale real-estate markets.

With dust-free sanding, premium finishes from brands like Bona and Loba, and attention to details like staircase refinishing or tread replacement, homeowners can transform their property’s appearance and appeal without the high cost of full flooring replacement.

For anyone preparing to list a home, or simply wanting to elevate their living space, refinishing offers the perfect blend of beauty, durability, and return on investment.

When evaluating a property, flooring is one of the first features buyers notice and one of the most influential in determining overall value. From hardwood to marble, to high end engineered options, the type and condition of your floors say a lot about the home’s quality and maintenance

But exactly how much of your home’s value does the flooring represent? Let’s break it down.

Flooring as a Percentage of Home Value

In most residential properties, flooring accounts for roughly 7% to 10% of the total home value. This means that in a $3.7 million property, the floors alone could represent $259,000 to $370,000 worth of perceived and actual value.

In luxury homes or properties with larger square footage — this percentage can fluctuate slightly based on:

•The quality and rarity of the materials used (e.g., imported walnut vs. engineered oak)

•The complexity of installation (e.g., herringbone, chevron, or custom patterns)

•The overall design continuity with other elements like stairs, millwork, and wall finishes

High-end buyers tend to appreciate craftsmanship, so premium floors do more than just add beauty, they reinforce the impression of exclusivity and long-term value.

Refinishing vs. Replacing: Maximizing Value

If your floors are worn but in good condition, refinishing can be one of the smartest investments you can make. Instead of replacing the entire surface, refinishing involves sanding, staining, and sealing the existing hardwood restoring it to like-new condition for a fraction of the cost.

•Refinishing Cost: Typically $3–$6 per square foot

•Replacing Cost: Usually $8–$15 per square foot or more for new hardwood

•Return on Investment: Refinishing can deliver up to 70–80% ROI, while new installations may exceed 100% ROI in high-end homes

Not only does refinishing save money, but it also enhances perceived value, making the entire space feel refreshed and well cared for without a full-scale renovation.

Flooring and Perception: The Luxury Factor

In luxury real estate, perception is everything. The right flooring material can visually expand a space, complement architectural details, and even influence how natural light interacts with a room.

•Light oak or ash: Brightens interiors and feels modern and spacious

•Dark walnut or mahogany: Evokes richness, warmth, and sophistication

•Wide-plank boards: Add a bespoke, high-end touch that buyers associate with craftsmanship

The consistency of flooring throughout the home from hallways to bedrooms, to staircases also contributes significantly to how cohesive and “complete” a property feels.

Your flooring isn’t just what you walk on, it’s a foundation of your home’s value and visual identity. Whether you invest in new hardwood or refinish what you already have, maintaining high-quality, well-finished floors can dramatically improve your property’s appeal and resale potential.

For homes ranging from $500,000 to $3,000,000 flooring isn’t just a detail it’s a statement of quality, comfort, and lasting value.

When designing a pet-friendly space with wood flooring, several factors come into play to ensure both the aesthetic appeal and the durability of your floors. Here’s a guide to help you make the best choices:

Choose the Right Type of Wood:

Hardwoods are better than softwoods: Opt for harder wood species like oak (especially white oak), hickory, maple, and Brazilian walnut (ipe). These are more resistant to scratches and dents from pet nails. Softer woods like pine, cherry, or black walnut are more prone to damage.

Engineered hardwood is a good alternative: It consists of a real wood veneer on top of a plywood core, making it more stable and less susceptible to moisture and temperature fluctuations than solid hardwood. Some engineered hardwood options also offer enhanced durability.

Consider bamboo: It’s a sustainable and relatively hard material that can be a good option for pet owners.

2. Select a Durable Finish:

Look for a strong, scratch-resistant finish:

UV-cured urethane finish with an aluminum oxide additive is one of the most durable options available.

Matte or low-sheen finishes are preferable: They tend to show scratches and imperfections less than glossy finishes.

Prefinished floors often have more durable factory finishes compared to those finished on-site.

Oiled finishes can make scratches less apparent and are easier to spot-repair, but may require more regular maintenance.

Additional Tips for a Pet-Friendly Wood Floor:

Keep your pet’s nails trimmed regularly to minimize scratching.

Use rugs and mats in high-traffic areas and near doorways to protect the flooring from dirt and scratches.

Clean up spills and accidents immediately, especially pet urine, which can damage the wood finish and even the wood itself over time.

Place mats under food and water bowls to prevent water damage.

Consider wire-brushed or distressed wood surfaces, as these textures can help to hide any scratches that do occur.

Some newer products like densified wood flooring are specifically designed to be highly resistant to scratches and dents from pets and may even offer water resistance.

By considering these factors, you can choose wood flooring that not only looks beautiful but also stands up to the wear and tear of living with pets, ensuring a stylish and practical space for both you and your furry companions.

The timeless beauty of hardwood flooring can significantly increase the visual appeal of your house. However, how well you maintain this investment will determine how long it lasts. With proper maintenance, hardwood floors can endure for many years, contributing significantly to your treasured home’s memories.

Assessing Wood Floor Wear

If the floor is solid wood, insert a utility knife into a board crack and measure the penetration depth. You can assess how much of the wear layer has to be sanded off by marking it with your fingernail. The second is that it’s typically too far gone if you notice a lot of bright nailheads protruding. Lastly, if you notice cracks that are about 3/8″ in diameter and align with the groove, it typically means that the floor has lost all structural support since the groove is beginning to move and break on its own.

If the floor has been removed too far, a screen and coat can usually be applied. It’s preferable to do nothing with a floor that has reached the end of its useful life since it will ultimately fail. The top part of the groove had been sanded so many times that it had lost all of its vitality and life. This revealed areas where it was fractured and splintered.

If the floor has been worn down significantly, then perhaps a screen and recoat could be performed

How to notice before refinish

When you have to refinish an old floor, how can you know if the floor is reaching the end of its service life? First, you should use the cleaners specified by the finish maker. If you maintain it every six to eight years, depending on traffic, you can go in and gently screen it and apply a new coat of finish without having to remove extra layers of wood and resand. You can do a buff and coat instead.

Wax-finished floors should be rewaxed regularly to ensure that they can be refinished. To preserve a floor that can be refinished, flooring with a wax finish should be rewaxed occasionally. Utilizing a pre-made cleaner from the finish maker is sufficient for those with a urethane finish. Never, ever use polish on the floor because it can cause problems in the future.

How Long Does Hardwood Flooring Last?

Hardwood flooring is well-known for its durability, which may last for generations when properly maintained. With proper care and maintenance, hardwood flooring can last for 25 to 100 years or more.
25-50 Years: In moderate-use areas with good maintenance, hardwood flooring can easily last 25 to 50 years. This timeframe is typical for many houses and matches the longevity of most hardwood species.
50-75 Years: With proper upkeep and little foot traffic, hardwood floors can last for decades and still look great. This durability is possible with hardwoods noted for their hardness and tenacity.
75-100 Years: Well-maintained hardwood floors, along with resilient wood species and low wear and tear, can last 75 years or more.

Hardwood finishes serve both functional and aesthetic purposes. Finishes are applied to highlight the wood’s inherent beauty, emphasizing grain patterns, color variations, and texture. Different finishes (such as oil-based, water-based, or wax-based) can achieve varying effects.

How to achieve a high-quality finish

First of all, it’s essential to prepare the wood. Remove indentations, grease, oil, and other wood defects using multiple grits of sandpaper. Identify if there are any loose boards, unsecured nails, or holes that may require attention, such as filling with wood filler or putty. You might find it helpful to use a putty knife to apply the filler or putty to the floor surface.

Once the filler is applied and fully dried, wipe down the surface with a damp cloth to remove any dust or residue before sanding.

Sanding is a process that requires both scientific understanding and artistic skill. It is important to grasp the progression of grits and techniques for achieving a glass-smooth finish on your projects. Always sand in the direction of the wood grain. Dust the surface and apply a water-based primer, stain, or clear coat.

Apply synthetic dye concentrates suspended in water or alcohol before using a pigmented wiping stain. Colorants are dissolved with mineral spirits, oil, alcohol, or water to create dyes. Dye alters the color of the wood without obfuscating its features or producing a muddy or unclear surface. Furthermore, dyes permeate both hard and soft grain, frequently enhancing or “bringing out the grain.” When using water-based dyes, the wood retains only the surface color as the water evaporates.

Use a toner to even out color variations and add depth to the overall color

While dyes color the grain and the spaces between the grain roughly the same color, pigmented stains fill the grain and leave the wood surface with less colorant.

The type of flooring you have, how often it is used, and the desired level of reflection should all be taken into account when selecting wood finishes.

Types of wood finishes

An oil-based polyurethane finish is thicker and more appropriate for floors that see a lot of foot activity. It has a high sheen and is best suited for floors that will be cleaned and maintained regularly. The treatments are widely used because they offer a natural gloss that keeps moisture out and prevents filth and scratches. This kind of finish can be used to conceal small surface flaws in the wood and is rather simple to apply.

If you want to improve the condition of your wood floors while also being green, water-based polyurethane is the ideal option for floor coatings. In addition to its exceptional resilience against abrasion, moisture damage, and UV radiation, it also has low emission levels. This makes it an outstandingly environmentally responsible choice.
The application is very easy and fuss-free. It doesn’t smell strong (so you won’t be disturbed while curing) and dries faster than conventional products. Also offers choices for a glossy or matte finish as well.
Water-based products contain fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than the typical polyurethanes on the market today. A product with fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) will be appreciated by allergy sufferers.

Apply multiple finish coats, allowing each coat to dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Exotic hardwood flooring is made from wood sourced from regions outside the local area, such as South America, Africa, India, and Asia. These woods are known for their unique and vibrant grain patterns, rich colors, and extreme durability. The term “exotic” is used to indicate that the wood comes from outside the typical domestic sources. Exotic hardwoods offer a wide range of colors and shades not commonly found in local wood species. This makes them a sought-after flooring option because of their distinctive aesthetic qualities. Exotic hardwoods are often more durable and resistant to wear and tear than domestic hardwoods. So they are ideal for high-traffic areas. However, exotic hardwoods can be more expensive than other hardwood flooring options. Some species can be challenging to cut and install without professional-grade tools.

Exotic Hardwood from South America

Tigerwood is a highly durable hardwood that is ideal for high-traffic areas due to its hardness. It has a unique blend of dramatic grain patterns and rich reddish-orange tones, adding a touch of luxury to any space. Tigerwood is water-resistant and naturally resistant to rot and decay. This makes it perfect for outdoor use, including outdoor deck boards, shutters, deck furniture, and boats. It is also common to use for decorative items because of its beautiful grain patterns. This wood is easy to maintain, requiring only a dust mop or vacuum cleaner for regular cleaning. It also has a moderate price compared to other exotic hardwoods.

Brazilian cherry hardwood is a versatile option that can be used in a variety of decorating styles, from traditional to contemporary. It comes in different shades, allowing homeowners to pair it with various wood furnishings and create a warm environment. The wood’s rich, warm color and distinctive grain pattern make it a popular choice for its aesthetic beauty. It naturally varies in color from burgundy to red, orange, and even some pink tones, and it darkens over time. Those tones of color add character and depth as it ages.

Brazilian cherry is a very tough type of wood that can be sanded down and refinished many times during its lifespan.

Acacia wood is one of the most durable hardwoods. It is ideal for furniture and flooring that will be used frequently. It is also resistant to scratches, dents, and other damage, and it has a natural shine that lasts for years. This wood has a beautiful natural grain and color, ranging from light amber to dark mahogany. Of course, this will add an elegant and rustic touch to any room or outdoor space. Acacia trees grow fast and can be harvested sustainably, so it’s an environmentally friendly choice compared to slower-growing hardwoods.

Exotic Hardwood from Central America

Santos mahogany is a very durable hardwood species commonly found in Central America and southern Mexico. This wood features a range of colors, from a lighter golden brown to a darker purplish red or burgundy, with a distinctive interlocking grain and a medium-to-fine texture. It has a high natural gloss, and quarter-sawn sections may display a striped or ribbon pattern, adding to its aesthetic appeal. Santos mahogany is also easy to work with and has good finishes, making it a popular choice for flooring, furniture, and interior trim.

Exotic Hardwood from Oceania

Australian Cypress is a highly durable and versatile softwood. It is extremely durable, with a Janka hardness rating of 1,360 lbs, making it suitable for high-traffic areas and resistant to decay, rot, and insect attacks. It has a varied color range, from light tan to darker brown, with a straight grain and a medium uniform texture. The wood has a moderate natural luster, adding to its aesthetic appeal. It is naturally resistant to moisture, decay, and insect attacks, making it a long-lasting and low-maintenance option. Australian Cypress is an environmentally friendly choice.

Australian cypress is easy to machine and sand but can be brittle.

Resume

Domestic hardwood and exotic hardwood represent two distinct categories of hardwood flooring. Domestic hardwood derives from trees native to the United States, such as oak, maple, ash, cherry, birch, walnut, or hickory. On the other hand, exotic hardwood originates from various regions worldwide, particularly tropical areas. The most common are Brazilian walnut, Brazilian cherry, Australian cypress, and purple Heart.

Domestic hardwoods are generally more affordable and readily available than exotic hardwoods. They offer a traditional, warm appearance and are suitable for a wide range of designs. In contrast, exotic hardwoods tend to be denser, harder, and more expensive due to their striking visual impact and the costs associated with importing them. The choice between these two types of flooring depends on factors such as availability, personal preference, and budget. Important aspects to consider when comparing domestic and exotic hardwoods include color, availability, and hardness. Domestic hardwoods typically undergo gradual color changes, are more widely available, and may be less dense, while exotic hardwoods often exhibit more rapid color changes, are less readily available, and tend to be denser and harder. The decision ultimately hinges on individual needs and priorities.

Wood has the ability to absorb and release moisture based on the surrounding conditions. In an excessively dry climate, wood floors may potentially experience splitting. However, proper installation techniques can prevent this issue from occurring.

It’s important to take caution when considering the use of a humidifier as a solution for potential moisture issues. Although a humidifier can assist in minimizing the impact of humidity fluctuations, it is not advisable to rely solely on it as the sole means of defense when installing a hardwood floor in a dry climate. It is crucial to prioritize moisture measurement and acclimation as vital steps for the successful installation of a hardwood floor in such conditions.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance involves not disabling the air conditioning and heating systems during cooler weather in the summer. This approach ensures that your heating system remains in optimal condition when the summer heat subsides and you need it.

Making sure your floor is acclimated is the key to extending the life of your hardwood floors.

Engineered vs Solid Hardwood

When comparing engineered hardwood floors and solid hardwood floors, a noticeable distinction arises in their performance in dry environments. Engineered hardwood floors demonstrate greater consistency and flexibility in handling humidity levels spanning from 30-80%. They can be rendered well-suited for a wider array of conditions. Conversely, solid hardwood floors typically accommodate narrower humidity ranges, typically ranging from 30 to 50%.

This disparity in performance can be attributed to the construction of engineered hardwood. This type of hardwood consists of multiple layers meticulously engineered to grant enhanced stability and resistance against moisture-related complications like warping and buckling. On the other hand, solid hardwoods possess the advantage of multiple sanding opportunities. It is more vulnerable to water damage and may not exhibit the same suitability for environments prone to fluctuating humidity levels.

Therefore, when evaluating performance in dry environments, engineered hardwood floors tend to provide more consistent outcomes. They demonstrate increased suitability across a broader range of circumstances compared to solid hardwood floors.

Engineered floors have many layers of wood, that’s why they are more flexible to be used in various climates

With the appropriate combination of materials and a climate-controlled space,Renova Flooring can successfully install your hardwood floor in even the driest climates.

As a homeowner with elegant hardwood floors, you take great pride in the beauty and sophistication they bring to your living space. They match every style and can be suited for every space, making them an excellent choice for your home.

However, the tranquility of having these luxurious floors can be disrupted when an unexpected infestation occurs. One such menace that poses a threat to hardwood floors is the Powder Post Beetle. These tiny insects can wreak havoc on your cherished investment if not addressed promptly and effectively.

Don’t forget to read the rest of our blog for more information on hardwood floors!

Understanding Powder Post Beetles

Before delving into the management of an infestation, it is crucial to understand the enemy. Powder Post Beetles are wood-boring insects belonging to the subfamily Lyctinae.

These insects lay their eggs in cracks and crevices of unfinished wood surfaces, and upon hatching, the larvae bore into the wood, feeding on its cellulose content. As the larvae grow, they create a network of tunnels, leading to structural damage and aesthetic deterioration.

The telltale sign of a Powder Post Beetle infestation is the presence of tiny holes on the surface of the affected wood. They are usually accompanied by a fine, powdery substance , hence the name “Powder Post Beetle.”

Powder post beetles are a nasty pest.

Preventing Infestations

Prevention is the first line of defense against Powder Post Beetles. Opt for hardwood species that are naturally resistant to Powder Post Beetles, such as oak, hickory, or cherry. These species are less appealing to insects, reducing the likelihood of infestations.

You should also ensure that the wood used for flooring undergoes proper drying and treatment processes to eliminate any existing larvae or eggs. Moreover, before installation, seal any cracks or crevices in the subfloor and adjoining structures.

Powder Post Beetles thrive in high humidity environments. Invest in a dehumidifier to keep indoor humidity levels in check and make your home less inviting to these pests.

Effective Management of Infestations

If you suspect or confirm a Powder Post Beetle infestation in your hardwood floors, take immediate action to mitigate the damage.

Identify the areas with active infestations and isolate them to prevent the beetles from spreading further. Next, vacuum the infested areas to remove the powder-like frass and any adult beetles on the surface. Dispose of the vacuum bag immediately to avoid reinfestation.

In severe infestations, fumigation may be necessary to eliminate the pests completely. If you keep running into trouble with powder beetles, don’t be shy about calling a professional.

In cases of significant structural damage, consult with a hardwood flooring specialist to assess if wood replacement is required. They can help you match and install new flooring seamlessly.

If you follow these steps, you will definitely get rid of these awful beetles.

In conclusion, Powder Post Beetles can pose a significant threat to the beauty and durability of your hardwood floors. By staying vigilant, taking preventive measures, and promptly addressing any infestations with professional help, you can preserve the splendor of your beautiful hardwood floors.

Wood flooring is an elegant and timeless choice for any home or business. Furthermore, it also has a lot of variety, from species to finishes, so you can style hardwood however you want.

For those who desire a more unique and textured look, wood texturing can add depth and character to any flooring. In this article, we will explore the different techniques for creating textured wood flooring and the benefits of each.

Remember to keep an eye on our blog for more information on hardwood!

Wire Brushing:

Wire brushing is a popular technique for creating textured wood flooring. It involves brushing the surface of the wood with a stiff wire brush, which removes the soft fibers of the wood and exposes the harder, more durable grain.

This technique can be used on any type of wood and creates a rustic, weathered look that is perfect for a cozy atmosphere.

Hand Scraping:

Hand scraping is another prominent technique for creating textured wood flooring. This is often used to create a distressed or antique look and can be customized to suit any design aesthetic.

Scraping entails manually scraping the surface of the wood with a scraper to create subtle grooves and variations in the surface. Different textures can be achieved through variations on this technique, like the angle or the direction it’s scraped in.

Hand scraping is a really popular technique.

Distressing:

Distressing is a technique that involves intentionally damaging the surface of the wood to create a worn and weathered look. Distressed wood flooring is often used in rustic or industrial design styles and adds a unique and characterful element to any space.

This can be achieved using tools such as hammers, chains, and chisels to create dents, scratches, and other imperfections. Although it might sound easy, as with every other technique, you should always contact an expert.

Distressed wood definitely has its charm

In addition to adding visual interest to a flooring project, textured wood flooring can also provide practical benefits. Textured surfaces can improve traction and reduce the risk of slipping, making them a great choice for high-traffic areas or homes with children or pets.

When considering wood texturing techniques for your flooring project, it’s important to work with a skilled and experienced professional. They can help you select the right wood species, texture, and finish to achieve the look you want.

In conclusion, wood texturing techniques can add depth, character, and practical benefits to any wood flooring project. No matter the look you prefer, there are texturing techniques available to suit your style and needs. With the help of a skilled professional, you can create beautiful wood flooring that will last for years to come.

In today’s world, environmental responsibility has become a crucial issue that affects us all. With increasing awareness of the impact that human activities have on the planet, people are taking steps to promote sustainability.

In that regard, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are a type of standardized report that provide information on the environmental impacts of a product. EPDs are becoming increasingly popular as consumers and businesses look for ways to reduce their environmental impact.

One industry that has recently been evaluated using EPDs is the flooring industry. A study was conducted by the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA), a not-for-profit trade association.

Be sure to check our blog for more information on hardwood floors!

What did the study say?

The study compared the environmental impacts of six different types of flooring, including solid hardwood, engineered hardwood, and carpet. The results showed that wood flooring has a much lower impact on the environment compared to the rest.

In fact, the study found that the production and use of wood flooring can result in negative carbon emissions. This means that the use of wood flooring can actually help reduce carbon in the atmosphere.

One of the reasons for the low environmental impact of wood flooring is that it is a renewable resource. Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as they grow, and this carbon remains stored in the wood even after it is harvested and processed into flooring.

Additionally, the NWFA study found that the production of wood flooring has a low impact on other environmental factors, such as water use and energy consumption.

Here you can see the entire chart.

Other factors to take into account

While the production of wood flooring has a low environmental impact, it is important to note that the installation and maintenance of the flooring can also impact the environment. This is a crucial aspect if you are trying to be as sustainable as possible.

For example, the use of adhesives and finishes during installation can release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air, which can have negative impacts on indoor air quality. Choosing low-VOC adhesives and finishes, like natural oil based finishes, can help reduce these impacts.

Furthermore, the proper maintenance of your flooring will also reduce your environmental impact. Since hardwood is a long-lasting material, the better you take care of it, the longer it will take until you have to replace it, and maybe you won’t need to replace it at all!
