When you get home, you probably want to walk in and see that everything is in its proper place and that everything is clean. But, what stands out the most at home? The floors and the walls. Those are the primary items that must be in perfect condition. But in this article, I’ll concentrate on the floors, as well as the hardwood flooring cost. Let’s dive in!

What you need to know

Hardwood floor allows homeowners to have the same wood on the floor during their entire life, of course, demanding some care and maintenance. The longevity of the hardwood floor finish relies mainly on the owner’s care and can last between 5-15 years before it starts showing up some deeper scratches and become dull.

Wood flooring is an undeniably beautiful and appealing addition to any home. It generally increases the value of the home. However, when compared to other flooring options and the amount of work required from start to finish, hardwood flooring can be quite costly.

Prices can differ from the national average due to the size of the hardwood flooring area, design, type, prep work, labor, location, material costs, sanding, staining, coating, and finishing. After adding up all these factors, the average cost ranges from $3 to $8 per square foot.

Installation cost

The price depends on the type of hardwood flooring you select. Several factors determine the overall cost of hardwood flooring, ranging from the type of wood to the manner of installation. As a result, estimating the final cost accurately becomes difficult. Most homes pay between $3 and $8 per square foot for hardwood flooring installation, with the average cost being around $4.5 per square foot.

Most homes pay between $5 and $25 per square foot for hardwood flooring, with the average cost being around $10 per square foot. Lower-priced wood species include maple and hickory. At a higher price point, you can go with more exotic woods like Walnut or Oak for your kitchen flooring.

You will also need to budget for labor, installation, and finishing charges for the hardwood. In total, hardwood flooring for a 1000 square foot area will cost between $10,000 and $30,000 when all of the following costs are factored in.

Solid hardwood flooring cost

The cost of oak flooring and solid wood flooring can be significant when compared to other forms of flooring that are designed primarily for economic effectiveness. However, with solid wood flooring, the focus is on the quality of the floor, from design to finish. Each board is meticulously made into a product that transforms any area in an instant. Although it has a high quality, that doesn’t mean you don’t need to clean it once in a while.

On average, the price is anywhere between $8 and $20 per square foot. And if you take into account the cost of the installation, the coatings, and finishing, 1000 square feet of the surface could cost between $8000 to $20,000.

Engineered harwood flooring cost

Engineered wood is, it’s made up of several layers of horizontally laid-up wooden strips. It provided a variety of patterns and designs in terms of finish.

Engineered wood has approximately the same aesthetic appeal as solid natural wood but is slightly less expensive. Furthermore, depending on the production process, engineered wood may be more durable than solid hardwood blocks.

Hardwood flooring is virtually as inexpensive as raw wood. Engineered hardwood flooring costs between $6 and $12 per square foot. At this rate, the cost of a 1000 square foot surface is between $6,000 and $12,000.

Finishing cost

There are different ways to finish your hardwood floor, and the cost will be higher or lower depending on the process you choose:

Virtrification: Perhaps the most popular finish for a harwood floor. Virtrification necessitates the application of a layer of vanish to the floor. The vanish used is highly glossy and long-lasting. As a result, it will develop a highly resistant coating on the surface, shielding it from wear and damage. The floor may need to be sanded before the virtrification procedure can begin. Furthermore, the cost of virtrification of hardwood flooring ranges from $3 to $15 per square foot.

Oiling: It’s not as shiny as the virtrification, but the dull luster looks more natural. On the other hand, this type of finishing requires a lot of upkeep. You need to do it more than once or twice a year. On the bright side, it costs less than virtrification, $2 to $4 per square foot of the surface, to be more accurate.

Waxing: It’s a similar way to make the floor look when you apply oil. But this means that this one requires maintinience, such as oiling. To retain the protective layer of wax, a new layer needs to be applied several times a year. This option could cost $2 to $3 per square foot.
